Project for this week, June 1-4 2010. Carney McNicholas library move crews are returning books to the newly renovated and expanded John Taggart Hinckley Library on the campus of Northwest College in Powell, Wyoming. CM professional library moving crews including Dennis Cleland, Nate Grant and Mike Moore are moving the entire book and government documents collections from the existing building to the new addition. Using the company's signature book carts and keeping the collection in good order they are unloading ranges of books, then sliding the shelving range on teflon pads to the new location in the library. Then, they reconfigure the book shelving to the right size and reload the shelves with books. Sounds like a lot of work and it is.

Move For Hunger

Carney McNicholas has recently partnered with not for profit organization Move For Hunger http://www.moveforhunger.org/. Move For Hunger is a national food rescue program where participating moving firms leave specially marked boxes with their clients and prospective clients who are moving. Unwanted foodstuff can be left in these cartons and returned to the participating mover for re-delivery to food banks and pantries. Carney McNicholas household goods move estimators started leaving cartons at residences last week. CMcN is taking collected food to Second Harvest Food Banks in Lorain and Youngstown. Move crews will start collecting immediately.

Pack and move a sarcophagus

The U.S. will return to Egypt a 3,000 year old wooden sarcophagus confiscated at the Miami airport after being shipped from Barcelona, the Culture Ministry announced Monday.
    The brightly painted sarcophagus dates back to the 21st Dynasty (1070-945 B.C.) and belonged to a private individual called Imesy, said the statement, though last year antiquities head Zahi Hawass linked it to a pharaoh called Ames.
    Customs officials at Miami International Airport seized the coffin in October 2008 from a shipment coming from Spain after the importer could not present the proper documentation to prove ownership.
    In the ensuing investigation, U.S. authorities determined the sarcophagus had left Egypt some time after 1970 and was later exhibited in Madrid in 2007.
    Egypt sued to have the coffin returned in November 2009 and the importer dropped its claim.
    The sarcophagus was moved to Washington, D.C. from Miami in March 2010 by Carney McNicholas van operator Ken Bruns as an exclusive use climate controlled shipment.

Ritter Public Library, Vermillion, OH

Book lovers will have loads of space to explore when the Ritter Public Library reopens Friday December 18.

The Vermilion library closed yesterday as Carney-McNicholas, INc. crews rearranged the space inside as part of the Ritter Public Library expansion. The library will reopen from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday for a preview of its new three-story, 17,000-square-foot addition.

"Everything is going to be in a different location so they will be rediscovering the library."

Voters in 2007 approved the building expansion project, which will nearly double the size of the library. A bond issue will raise about $3.5 million of the $4.9 million needed to add to the library.

"It's been a very long process," Ford said. "The amount of detail in any kind of a renovation-expansion project is huge these days because of the technology, and it's not just computers. There's electrical items. We'll have an HVAC system that's state of the art."

The expanded space includes larger teen and children's departments, new community meeting spaces and an upstairs adult reading room.

The library will be open for business as usual at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.

For the second consecutive year Carney-McNicholas Inc. has received from the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation in conjunction with the National Safety Council, the Northern Ohio Chapter Safety Council 100% Group Award. This award goes to the member with the lowest injury incident rate in each group. Groups are determined by the number of employees. The 100% Award goes to each member that works the entire year without an injury or illness resulting in a day away from work. Well done!

Ohio State University Thompson Library

I am very pleased to announce that Carney-McNicholas, Inc. has been awarded and issued a Purchase Order for the relocation of 1.3 million books at Ohio State University. Howard Elko, Matt Hagan and Dennis Cleland did an excellent job on the winning proposal. Matt and Howard attended the first pre-move meeting today and won the confidence of the OSU staff. Matt is Project Manager for the move and will start mapping the collection immediately. Work will be completed between May 18 and August 7.

St. Malachi

Carney-McNicholas has donated the use of our trailer U7010085, known to us as the crane trailer, to St. Malachi for three weeks to store Christmas and holiday donations to the church. Jackie Bluett, Associate Director at the church, sent this note today; "We SO appreciate the use of your trailer. Please see the attached photos. Your trailer is helping us by holding the generousity of others until we can distribute it to children, families and individuals who come to the Center with the hope of taking steps to becoming the best they can be!
